CENTER TWP. – The Beaver County Library System invites everyone to a free afternoon ofcostumes, food trucks, authors, vendors, entertainment and hands-on activities Oct. 15 at LibraryCon’22.

Patterned after a traditional comic book convention, but with more of a Beaver County community focus, the second annual event takes place noon to 4 p.m. at the Community College of Beaver County Dome and Library.

Beaver County libraries will operate booths based on comic book or sci-fi genres, such as Anime, Horror, Disney and Harry Potter, with hands-on activities, take-home crafts and free resources for both children and adults.

The libraries will partner with local parks and museums, while other local organizations will present tables, mobile labs and more hands-on attractions, bringing even more activities and information to people of all ages.

Of course, you can’t have a con without fun costumes. LibraryCon indeed brings back its highly anticipated costume contest.

Visitors will enjoy things like PA Cyber’s Polytechnic Mobile “Fab Lab,” The Goblet of Kindle Fire Contest, local authors, 501st Starkiller Garrison, Star Wars Cosplay organization; plus free comics, unique vendors, digital resources, tools, and kits in the Library of Things.

Food trucks, free vision screenings, a countywide Tiny Art Gallery in the CCBC Library, airbrush tattoos, caricature artist and balloon twisting, a strolling magician with 13th Hour Entertainment and The Carnegie Museum of Natural History Pop-Up Museum all add to the joy.

“LibraryCon is an effort to remind our community that libraries are for everyone; we are so much more than books,” Courtney Colaizzi, program coordinator and social media manager said in a press release. “Walk-ins are welcome but we ask you to give us a heads-up on Eventbrite. And costumes aren’t required. But good ‘character’ is strongly encouraged.”
